Our Thoughts here at Curly Hairdo Ideas... :)
I think he's right, the Shampoo does have a stronger scent than the Leave-In Conditioner, but they both smell very fresh and clean. Definitely nice smells! :)
I also got the chance to use them today! I have been "no 'poo-ing" for over a year, with just baking soda and apple cidar vinegar, so I didn't want to try the shampoo in case it stripped the natural oils from my hair. But I've been very curious about co-washing. So today in the shower (my hair really needed some attention, so I figured today would be a good test!) I generously applied conditioner to my hair instead of shampoo or baking soda! I used a lot and I scrubbed my scalp well, then washed it out.
I was a bit skeptical - but my hair turned out Great! It was so clean and "fluffy!" LOL It had some volume and bounce even!
SO ... on to the person the products were really purchased for! Finally, this evening Q got to try the shampoo and conditioner. I decided it was time for an organic coconut oil "pre-poo". So an hour or two before her bath I had Q sit in my lap and we chatted with my sister while I lathered Q up. She LOVES putting coconut oil all over her body so she was perfectly happy helping me! We also used a bit of Extra Virgin Olive Oil as well. I wet her hair, applied the oils and gave her a nice head massage on her scalp. While we chatted I worked on finger detangling some of Q's more stubborn curls. (read = rats nests!) I got the majority out before she lost interest and wanted down... then after probably about 2 hours of playing we washed her hair. Shampoo'd and Condition'd like normal. :) I was a bit worried that the oils weren't out all the way because her hair was SO soft. We have family pictures tomorrow and I really (obviously) want her hair to look nice, so I *almost* washed it again just to make sure...
But I didn't! I wanted to know how the products would do by themselves under "normal" circumstances.
............. They were AWESOME! Her hair is soooo soft (thanks to the pre-poo as well) and not oily at all. It feels very natural and lovely! I didn't use the Leave In as a leave in - I used it like a "normal" conditioner - aka, I washed it out completely when we were done. I did not add any after her bath either, just in case it was too heavy for her hair (see HERE for review). With pictures tomorrow I didn't want to risk it!
In conclusion, I love these two products in Q's hair. - and they worked very well for all 3 of us, however, I wouldn't use it as a co-wash very consistently on myself because it's a tad too spendy for the amount of product I used. At the rate we go through shampoo and conditioner with Q, though, these products are well worth the price, in my opinion!
Update 2019 - These thoughts and comments are from the first time we used the products. Prices and other details may be different now. Original Sprout seems to be a reputable company (based in California!) They have lots of info on their website about their ingredients and philosophies which I appreciate. We have not continued to use this brand consistently mostly because I'm lazy and like to shop in store - none of the stores near us carry Original Sprout Shampoo or Conditioner.
her curls look absolutely beautiful in the last photo! the products sound great.
ReplyDeleteEver since I read you blog about all the chemicals in shampoos and what they can do, I knew I wanted to try something more organic (especially on my girls) so when I read that you purchased the Original Sprout I looked around on their website and I immediately wanted to try it, but I didn't want to spend that much money on it until I read some reviews. So I have been patiently waiting for your reviews on the Shampoo and Conditioner = ] I'm so glad that you gave it a great review, that makes me want to buy the product even more now. So I wanted to Thank You for the review and for opening my eyes to all the chemicals in shampoos and and what they can cause and do to you. I've never really thought about it, I mean I knew that it couldn't be good for you, but it's definitely not good for my girls. So again Thank You! and I will definitely be buying the shampoo, conditioner!
ReplyDeleteIs it really "easy rinse"? Now that my older two boys shower and wash their own hair alone, it's always full of shampoo residue. They're too old for me to do it, and too young to do a great job. My eldest is growing out his hair, so it's more of a problem for him. Plus his hair is getting long enough he could use a conditioner. I should take a look and see if i can find this in Canada.
ReplyDeleteHer hair is really getting long! She's really growing up, isn't she. How long is her hair when you stretch it?
