How to Regrow Damaged Hair - The Inside Scoop

Is it possible to hurry the process of growing your hair out longer?!  There are many different schools of thought on the subject and I've had some ideas of my own.  But when a dear follower commented the other day asking for more information on this topic, I had to do some research!

First of all let me say that I found a lot! So this is by no means a definitive answer, nor is it a scientific answer to the question of how to regrow damaged hair or to promote faster hair growth! It is merely information that I have gathered and that sounds plausible to ME! How's that for a disclaimer?!  If anyone tries any of the ideas mentioned here, I'd love to hear how they worked for you!

1. Hair is Dead. So we can't recreate that piece of hair that got damaged, all we can do is try to make sure that the new growth coming out of the head is well protected and hydrated so that it stays supple and less likely to be damaged in the future. (Although, if the original cause of the damage was by pulling or scissors - then that is an entirely different source to combat! *wink*)

2. It's What's Inside That Counts. (In more ways than one!) Because the hair itself is dead, we need to feed the inside, to promote new hair growth. We need to be feeding our bodies proper nutrients in order to have "healthy" hair! hmmm, healthy body = healthy hair. I guess it makes sense!

Some vitamins and minerals that appear to be beneficial to growing hair longer and faster are:
* amino acids
* B vitamins (B-6)
* Biotin
* Inositol
* Folic Acid
* Magnesium
* Sulfur
* Silica
* Zinc
* Beta-carotene (found in yellow and green veggies and fruits)

You can get these through a suppliment and/or through the foods you eat (and feed your kids!)

3. Protein. Hair is a dead protein. So that tells us that protein is essential for hair development! (disclaimer: some people find that adding protein to their hair helps, some it doesn't - try it and see if you want! Each head of hair is unique, after all!  But right now we're talking about protein on the inside...) Eating a diet rich in protein can help your hair be strong, long, soft and supple, too. Food like fish, eggs, beans, yogurt, meats and tofu are all good carriers of protein. (Please be hesitant of Soy in general in the US however, SO much of it is genetically modified that I wouldn't even bother trying it unfortunatly. There are other non-GMO options.)

        **** Transversely if you are putting a bunch of junk into your body instead of nutrients - your hair will most likely look like junk, too. What goes in, is reflected out. That goes for what we eat  - but..... also...... anything we put on our skin is absorbed into the body! Our skin is our largest organ. This is why knowing your ingredients in hair products is so important. And not only hair products but also soaps, lotions, laundry detergent, air freshener, medications that contain harmful ingredients such as mercury, perfume, household cleaning products, etc! The list goes on and on. Anyway, end of soapbox... just KNOW what you're putting on and in your body. Be informed! ****

4. Sleep.  If you're not getting enough sleep, your body will pay the price and so will your hair! Our bodies use the time we're sleeping to help rebuild our cells and that is prime hair time, right there!  Stress, too, can aid in slowing hair growth - so relax! Find ways to de-stress and your hair will thank you.
