Short Curly Toddler Hair Interview!

BIG Thank you to our Interviewee today!! I was so excited to receive this in my email inbox recently! Enjoy!!

"Ok, I had a few minutes and thought I'd fill out an interview questionaire for you.  ...  I would've filled out one for me, but I'm still in the trial-and-error process with products and techniques with my highlighted and processed hair that I really have no advice as far as that goes.  So, I filled out one for my daughter.

Baby/Short Hair Interview Questions:

How old is your little one? She is 2 1/2 going on 16.

What is your favorite short hair style? For casual days, I let her wild hair fly by getting it damp and scrunching it up, then I stick a clip to hold her hair back out of her eyes and call it a day. If I want to go with serious cuteness, we doll her up in mini piggies (tiny, loose pigtails secured with some type of sickeningly cute flower bows).

How do you keep her still while you style her hair? Bribery. She gets to go into the bathroom, which is generally restricted, and play with some of mom's old makeup brushes. That keeps her mind and her hands occupied long enough for me to get in, do hair, and get out.

Do you use (or will you encourage/discourage the use of) heat and/or chemicals on your child's hair? It seems like the less I do, the better it is, especially when it comes to my daughter's hair. A little bit of water and some great midwestern humidity usually put her hair in some intensely cute red curls all on their own. And from experience, manufactured heat has done my hair NO favors, though I'll admit that I use some chemicals on my own hair. I have yet to find a natural product that doesn't make me look like I haven't showered in weeks (read: coconut oil) - though I will not give up yet!

What is your favorite aspect of "hair time"? It lets me see the "girly-girl" side of her that is often overshadowed by her desire to play with cars and rebel against the norm. She genuinely enjoys it and always comes out, all prettied up, and declares to her daddy that she is now "Beeeeeeautiful!" Which she is, of course. :)

What is the best hair advice you've ever received? "Just leave it alone!" - My Mom. Oh mom, you are SO right. Why didn't I listen to you before I scorched my hair with years of flat-iron abuse?

What is the worst hair advice you've ever received? "You should straighten your hair!" I listened to this advice all through high school, and tried desperately for an hour every morning to tame my curls into unnatural straightness. I don't want my daughter to have to do that, I want her to embrace her curly hair and enjoy how truly easy they can be to care for!

If you could give us one tip or trick - what would it be? My tip is this - do not overthink or overdo. It's so easy for curlyhaired folks to get caught up in creams, gels, straighteners, and the like and while I can attest that certain hair serums do have their place in the market, most curly-headed kids don't need much to lush up their ringlets."

Thank you sooo much for giving us this interview! Your daughter is ADORABLE!!
